Bark Painting: Rainbow Serpent

Storyteller: Thomas Congoo

One day the people of the Tribe decided to turn on the Rainbow Serpent; they thought they could beat him.

The Rainbow Serpent showed the Tribe that they were no match for him and punished them by swallowing members of

the Tribe whole.

Thomas Congoo:

Uncle Thommy Congoo is a descendent of the Bar-barrum tribe of the Atherton Tablelands.   The Stories depicted in the paintings were passed down to him by his Mother.  The three pieces of bark were cut from the one tree; the Stringy Bark Tree. It took three months to prepare the bark for painting Uncle Thommy approached his nephew, Indigenous Artist Deon Wason to bring these stories to life.
